About The Korea Ledger
The Korea Ledger is a personal project with one aim: to bring Korean news to English-speaking readers with concision, accuracy, and clarity. Each brief is based on several independent Korean-language reports covering the same event. The underlying facts are extracted, cross-checked, and rewritten in our own words. We report the facts that are consistently presented across multiple sources rather than translating any single outlet's article. This project is independently run and self-funded by one person. It is not affiliated with any of the outlets it cites.
How a brief is made
- We gather several independent Korean-language reports covering the same event.
- The facts are extracted and cross-checked across the reports. Claims reported by only one outlet are treated more cautiously than those corroborated by multiple independent sources.
- An original English brief is drafted from those facts, never by translating a single article.
- Every brief is reviewed and approved by a person before publication.
We use software, including AI language models, to help gather sources, extract facts, and prepare an initial English draft. Nothing is published automatically. Every brief is checked against its sources by a person. Moreover, if reporting describes something as "alleged" or "suspected," we retain that qualification rather than present it as established fact. The sources used for every brief are listed and linked at the end of each article so readers can verify our reporting.
